Biography

“Kimberly Christian Johnson consistently and persistently works to create meaningful outcomes where she makes a difference, whether big or small, in her students’ lives. She is an eighth- and ninth-grade interventionist and study skills teacher at Auburn Junior High School in Auburn, Alabama. Johnson has spent the last 23 years committed to creating effective, student-centered approaches to learning. She supports students by understanding the keys to individual growth. She encourages academic and emotional success by providing students with relentless support and affirmation. Johnson knows honesty, sincerity and hard-earned trust are essential components for students’ futures, especially those underserved due to personal circumstances. She knows this area well because Johnson herself is a product of own her village: a community of family members and teachers, although economically challenged, who poured loving faith and support into her. Johnson believes that when students have strong, supportive and healthy-functioning experiences, a teacher’s job becomes much easier. If not, a teacher’s role becomes even more urgent and important. Johnson holds a Bachelor of Arts in communications from the University of Alabama, a Master of Arts in English language arts education from Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University, and a Specialist in Education degree in English language arts education from Auburn University. Johnson understands the importance of her impact. Students may come to her classroom struggling for various reasons, but she works to connect and build positive relationships with each student, so they will grow to have a lifetime of wonderful experiences. “
