Biography

Beau McCastlain is a career and technical education teacher who teaches television/video production for De Queen High School (DHS) in De Queen, Arkansas. In addition to receiving a bachelor’s degree in mass communications with a minor in computer information systems from the University of Central Arkansas, McCastlain also earned a master’s degree in educational leadership and administration from Southern Arkansas University. He is certified to teach social studies for grades seven through 12 and holds a technical permit for television broadcasting. 
 
McCastlain began a career in broadcasting in 2001 and is an award-winning multimedia journalist. McCastlain transitioned to education in 2009 as a teacher and coach, and in 2020 he transitioned to his current teaching role as an instructor for the student-run television production program. 
 
McCastlain utilized his experience and knowledge in broadcasting to build and launch the DQTV program and he runs his classroom like a professional newsroom. He has built partnerships with the local radio station and the Arkansas Broadcasters Association, which have resulted in paid internships and freelance opportunities for his students. His students also have received state and national recognition for their work. 
 
McCastlain is a member of multiple organizations, including the National School Public Relations Association and the Association for Career and Technical Education. He also serves as a regional board member for the Arkansas Scholastic Press Association. McCastlain was named the DHS Teacher of the Year and De Queen Public Schools Teacher of the Year.
