Biography

Kerrie Gill is a middle school English language arts, creative writing and Advancement for Individual Determination (AVID) teacher for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA), a federal school system for military-connected students. A product of DoDEA schools, Gill’s passion for teaching military-connected students stems from her experience as an “army brat.” She believes in fostering authentic relationships, creating student-led collaborative learning environments and empowering students to actively engage in their learning.

Gill serves her school community as a member of the instructional leadership team and campus executive leadership team, promoting excellence in education for every student every day. She supports students and colleagues as the sixth grade team lead, continuous school improvement chair and site literacy lead, where she advocates for relevant, thought-provoking and engaging literacy instruction school and districtwide.

Gill received the Elizabethtown Independent Schools Excellence in Teaching & Educational Leadership (ExCEL) Award and was named a City of Elizabethtown Outstanding Citizen. Most recently, she was named the DoDEA 2024 Americas Southeast Teacher of the Year. Now in her 13th year in education, Gill teaches at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) American Middle School in Mons, Belgium, serving military-affiliated students and NATO partners.

Gill holds a Bachelor of Science in learning and behavioral disorders with an emphasis in middle grades English from Eastern Kentucky University and two master’s degrees in education as a teacher leader and a literacy specialist, both from the University of the Cumberlands.
