Biography

Innate curiosity, a love of science and a propensity for collaboration all coalesced to lead Colette Beausoliel into a fulfilling career in public education. Beausoliel had not originally intended to teach others, but that was to be her path. With a lifelong love for learning new things and a nurturing tendency in relating to others, it was inevitable.

After completing a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Arizona, Beausoliel later returned to earn a post-baccalaureate secondary science teaching certificate. She also holds a Master of Science in environmental science from the University of Guam. She currently teaches physics honors, robotics honors and pre-engineering honors at John F. Kennedy High School in Tamuning, Guam.

Acknowledging the satisfaction gained from an impressive professional résumé, Beausoliel finds that her most rewarding accomplishments center on empowering the success of others. She has been a pioneer of STEM development in Guam’s public schools. In her classes, she has led students to prize-winning success in challenging, real-life science competitions and prepared her students well for phenomenal success in college. Indeed, a career high point for Beausoliel was receiving the Morton Schapiro Distinguished Secondary School Teacher Award from Northwestern University in June 2023 after being nominated by a former student.

Recently, Beausoliel helped kick-start another grant proposal for her school. With an eager group of colleagues, she hopes to help guide facultywide, focused interventions to improve students’ performances in literacy and numeracy — two critical areas of identified need — and more challenges await.
