Biography

Greg Kester has taught 28 years for Potosi R-3 High School in Potosi, Missouri. As a social studies teacher and department chair, he offers American History I and II, Western Civilizations II, American political systems, psychology and sociology dual-enrollment courses.

He also teaches Foundations of Education in a Diverse Society and field experience semiannually for college credit. He is the cadet teaching coordinator and faculty sponsor of Future Teachers of America as he strives to prepare the next generation of educators to meet future challenges. Kester also serves as the scholar bowl coach, head senior and head junior sponsor and is chair or a member of several different professional learning committees.

Educated at Southeast Missouri State University, he received a bachelor’s degree in social studies education in 1995. He earned a Master of Arts in history from Southeast Missouri State University in 2001 and did further graduate work at the University of Missouri, St. Louis from 2010-2013 towards a Master of Science for school and community counseling so he could offer psychology, sociology and education classes for dual enrollment.

In 2023, the Missouri Veterans of Foreign Wars named him the High School Teacher of the Year for Missouri and the Missouri State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution named him Missouri’s Outstanding Teacher of American History. He is a member of the Missouri National Education Association and past president of the association’s Potosi chapter.
