Biography

Mark Lowrie t

teaches broadcast journalism at Gahanna Lincoln High School (GLHS). Lowrie earned a Bachelor of Science in communication from Ohio University before spending 12 years working professionally in the TV industry. Lowrie’s life changed direction when he obtained a Master of Arts in education at the University of Akron and his Integrated Language Arts license.

 

Lowrie has twice built Ohio’s most honored school broadcasting program. In four years at GLHS, Lowrie designed four new courses and increased TV class enrollment from 27 to 130. His students produce Lincoln Live, a live newscast streamed throughout the school and on multiple social media platforms to provide the district with a public relations channel. Previously, Lowrie spent 18 years at Steele High School (Amherst) producing its live, daily newscast, Steele News Live

 

His belief in empowering students to take ownership of their learning has served him well. The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has honored Lowrie’s students with seven National Student Production Awards (SPA), also known as the student Emmys, and 79 regional SPAs. Lowrie’s students led the nation with three National SPAs in 2022, including Best Newscast and earned the National Scholastic Press Association Pacemaker Award (top four broadcast programs nationally).

 

Lowrie has served as assistant varsity football coach, assistant athletic director, National Honor Society Advisor, and union negotiating team member. Lowrie received the 2022 Ohio University Scripps College of Communication Fellowship. He earned a Master of Arts in School Leadership from Concordia University (Chicago) and a professional principal license for grades five through 12.
