Biography

A 34-year veteran educator, Sharon Cole teaches second grade at Ceredo-Kenova Elementary in Wayne County, West Virginia. She received a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, and is certified in elementary education grades one through six and social studies grades four through eight.

Her enthusiasm for teaching and learning is visible through the unique environment that she creates. Evidence of the unique environment is shown by the Magic Tree House Reading Center in the corner of her classroom. Cole emphasizes the magic of reading through the use of this tree house and by doing so instills a love and excitement for reading in her students. As a veteran teacher, her teaching strategies are rigorous, engaging and differentiated. Cole has elevated expectations for all students to achieve academic, social and emotional standards and goals.

She has served as an active member of Ceredo-Kenova Elementary’s leadership team, hiring committee for six years, leader of the second grade curriculum team and was Ceredo-Kenova Elementary’s Faculty Senate President for three terms. She has been a model for Marshall University student teachers and a mentor for future teachers.

Cole enjoys reading, boating, trips to the ocean, volunteering at her church and spending valuable time with her husband, two children and one granddaughter.
