When We Find Our Voices: Missy Testerman’s Address to the Nation

By Missy Testerman

When teachers invest, they empower. When teachers find their voices, they become advocates.”

CCSSO’s National Teacher of the Year Program works to elevate the voices of excellent educators across the country. Every National Teacher of the Year uses their year of recognition and service to highlight a particular issue important to their school, students and journey in education.

The 2024 National Teacher of the Year Missy Testerman hopes in her year to empower teachers to find their voices in pursuit of being advocates for their students, the profession and themselves. Advocating inside and outside of the classroom can change the way students learn and ensure they have access to a high-quality education, regardless of their background.
According to Testerman, teaching is much more than a job; teaching is an investment. During her year of service, Testerman will invite her colleagues to continue investing in their students by finding ways to celebrate and elevate the classroom miracles that happen every day.
