Yamamoto’s passion for education was inspired by a professor who made math accessible and exciting, motivating her to help students see themselves as “math people.” She prioritizes fostering critical thinking and real-world connections, ensuring students of all abilities feel capable and supported in their learning. Her commitment to inclusive teaching spans from special education to advanced math courses.

Beyond the classroom, Yamamoto’s innovative math projects — designed to blend creativity with practical applications — are used across disciplines by educators. In her blog, “Beyond the Bell,” and in statewide presentations, she highlights inspiring stories of educators from across the commonwealth who are making meaningful impacts and offers suggestions for creating positive environments among her colleagues. She has also spoken internationally about educational practices, including to teachers in rural Manthani, India, where she has deep personal ties.
