Biography:

Bryan Silver is a dedicated science and career technical education teacher at Kalani High School in Honolulu, Hawai’i, with 24 years of experience. Certified in history, special education, science and career technical education for grades 9-12, he currently teaches four levels of engineering, leads a science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) capstone course, and directs after-school robotics programs, including For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) Robotics, FIRST Tech Challenge, VEX and drones.

Silver engages students through hands-on projects, such as constructing large Da Vinci-style bridges, and empowers them as leaders hosting robotics events and seminars. His commitment to STEM accessibility has garnered more than $283,000 in grants and led to three student-run businesses that sustain these initiatives. One of his most impactful projects, a mobile Innovation Station, brings STEM equipment to elementary schools, providing training for teachers and students alike and access to high-end technology for an entire semester.

Silver holds a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology and religious studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a post-Bachelor of Arts certificate in history and special education from the University of Hawai’i at Manoa along with science and career technical education certificates. His accolades include the 2015 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching; the Woodie Flowers Mentorship Award; Albert Einstein Distinguished Teacher Fellowship;  National Center for Women and Information Technology Teacher of the Year in 2013, 2018 and 2022; the  International Technology and Engineering Educators Association’s Teacher of Excellence award and the 2024 Harbor Freight Tools for Schools winner.

Beyond the classroom, Silver, a National Board Certified Teacher and Eagle Scout, enjoys scuba diving and sailboat racing, embodying his adventurous spirit and dedication to lifelong learning.
