Biography:

Kelly Rentz teaches choir, drama and Advanced Placement music theory at Colony High School in Palmer, Alaska. She graduated from Stetson University in DeLand, Florida, with a bachelor’s degree in music education with a vocal emphasis. She also serves as the director of the CHS Drama Department and has been the director of choirs and drama at CHS in Palmer since 2018.

Rentz has coached color guard for the CHS Marching Band, Thee Northern Sound. Her group’s proudest achievements include performances in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the 75th Anniversary D-Day Memorial Parade in France and performing in the 2015 Bands of America Grand Nationals, where the band was awarded the Albert J. Castronova Esprit de Corps Award for “pride, spirit, enthusiasm, friendliness, camaraderie and unity of purpose.”

Rentz founded her school chapter of Tri-M, the national honor music society, and is advisor for the National Thespian Society.

Rentz serves as President of the Board of Directors for Valley Performing Arts in Wasilla, Alaska, and encourages her students to involve themselves with the arts in their community. Her students take lead roles in large–scale community productions and often volunteer their time to perform for charitable events. She loves to create opportunities for students to shine and has provided direction for shows including Phantom of the Opera, Beauty and the Beast and Les Misérables. She hopes that the time she spends with her students will inspire a lifelong passion for the arts.
