Marifi A. Doculan is a high school chemistry, Advanced Placement (AP) chemistry, and AP Physics 1 teacher at Marianas High School in Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands. She earned her doctorate in education with a specialization in curriculum and teaching from Northcentral University, a master’s degree in education with curriculum and instruction emphasis from Adams State University and a Bachelor of Science in biology from the University of the Philippines.
Recognized for her outstanding contributions to science education, Doculan was named Marianas High School Teacher of the Year in 2025 and received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching State Finalist Award in 2023. She is also a recipient of the Distinguished STEM Educator Award from Teachers College, Columbia University, and the Research Distinction Award from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Endeavor Program for STEM Educators.
Doculan mentors students in competitive science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programs at the regional, national and international levels, including the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair, VEX World Robotics, Beamline for Schools (Geneva), NASA TechRise Challenge and Real World Design Challenge. She serves as an advisor to multiple student organizations, such as the Dolphins Robotics Club, Math Club, Coding Club and STEM Opportunities and Readiness Club, fostering leadership and collaboration.
Doculan’s teaching philosophy centers on inquiry-based learning, cultural relevance and the real-world application of scientific concepts. She is committed to cultivating curiosity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, empowering students to see themselves as future scientists, innovators and leaders.
