Biography:

Mike Patterson, an educator with a passion for mathematics, is dedicated to fostering student success. With three decades of teaching experience, Patterson’s journey in education has been marked by innovation, leadership and commitment to excellence.

Earning a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta and a master’s degree in mathematics education from the University of Georgia, Patterson spent five years honing his craft in Canada before joining the Clark County School District. Patterson teaches ninth through 12th grade geometry, algebra and calculus at Advanced Technologies Academy in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In 2009, Patterson was honored as the Milken Educator of the Year and received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. He earned National Board Certification in 2020, solidifying his pedagogical practices.

In 2022, Patterson received the Heart of Education Award for unwavering commitment to students and innovative teaching methods such as gamifying the learning experience through board games, providing students with enriching activities. His board game club makes significant contributions to the broader educational community through teacher grants and makes math more accessible and engaging. As president of the Southern Nevada Mathematics Council, he promoted excellence in math education and professional development.

Accommodating flexible learning styles, Patterson innovates with flexible seating and online curriculum, remaining dedicated to ensuring students have the tools and resources to succeed.

Patterson is proud of the impact made on the lives of students and colleagues. His unwavering commitment to excellence, innovative spirit and passion for teaching, truly set him apart as a leader in mathematics education.
