Biography:

Prince M. Johnson is a social studies educator at Food and Finance High School in New York City, where he teaches Advanced Placement human geography, government and Advanced Placement African American studies. He integrates career and technical education with academic learning through hands-on, sustainability-driven projects that connect culinary arts, history and civic engagement.

Johnson’s teaching philosophy centers on equity and the belief that all students can learn when their lived experiences are valued and integrated into instruction. He partners with organizations such as the Cornell University Cooperative Extension and the Food Education Fund to expand opportunities for students.

Johnson earned a Bachelor of Arts in history and a Master of Arts and Liberal Studies in coaching and education from Stony Brook University, a Master of Arts in school leadership from Touro College and completed a special education certification program at Brooklyn College. He has taken sabbatical coursework in African and African American studies at Rutgers University and is currently pursuing a sustainability certificate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is also a New York City Master Composter and Tree Captain.

Named the 2025 Gilder Lehrman New York History Teacher of the Year, Johnson has also received fellowships from the Fund for Teachers to study in Japan and Indonesia, the New York University Astor International Fellowship to Paris and the Goethe-Institut Transatlantic Outreach Program in Germany. He also serves on the New York City Climate Education Leadership Team.
