Biography:

Yeji Lee is a highly qualified teacher based in Saipan in the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands. She has taught multiple subjects, including English language arts, math, social studies, science, physical education and character education in a fifth grade self-contained classroom for four years at William S. Reyes Elementary School. After piloting departmentalization in 2023, Lee currently teaches science using the Into Science curriculum and Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Launch in a fifth grade classroom, working with 100 diverse learners daily.

Lee is a first-generation Korean American immigrant who moved to California and learned English as a second language in her sixth grade year. Despite cultural differences and language barriers, she not only achieved honor roll status from seventh grade onward but also became a successful educator, positively impacting the lives of many students, as did many of the teachers who helped her become who she is today. Lee is a strong advocate for all her students, believing that all learners deserve equal learning opportunities regardless of their culture, language or challenges they face in and out of the classroom.

Lee earned a Bachelor of Science in education with an emphasis in elementary education, graduating cum laude from Northern Marianas College in Saipan. She received a Master of Education in learning and technology from Western Governors University in Millcreek, Utah. Lee completed the 2023-2024 Project Lead the Way Launch Classroom Teacher Training in Indianapolis. In 2024, she was honored with the 21st Century Educator Award.
