Biography:

April Raguindin is a first grade teacher and garden and kitchen educator at Douglas K. Fletcher Elementary in Bakersfield, California. Raguindin is redefining what learning looks like. With two decades of teaching experience, she’s built a space where curiosity, creativity and community come first.

She began her education at California State University, Northridge, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in liberal studies with an emphasis in elementary education. She went on to attend the University of California, Los Angeles as part of its teacher education program, where she earned her master's degree in urban education. Most recently, she earned her reading intervention credential through Point Loma University.

Her dedication to students and the community has been recognized with multiple honors, including the Excellence in Education award from the Bakersfield City School District and the Teacher of the Year award from her district and county in 2025.

Raguindin is passionate about hands-on experiential learning and believes that food education is important and necessary. Relationships are the key to a successful classroom. Showing we care about each other, our community and our environment is, to her, what education is all about.
