Biography:

Brent Cook teaches Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps to students in grades 9-12 at Kubasaki High School in Okinawa, Japan. He holds a Bachelor of Science from Excelsior College and an Associate of Arts from the University of Maryland.

Cook’s mission is to help students grow academically while developing the confidence, discipline and responsibility needed to lead and serve others. His approach emphasizes mentorship, meaningful leadership practice and a classroom culture built on respect.

Cook has earned national recognition for his leadership and impact. He was named the 2024 Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Instructor of the Year. Under his guidance, Kubasaki’s Drill Team earned national championships in 2023 and 2024. The school was designated a Marine Corps Reserve Officer School for 2025, one of the highest distinctions a Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps unit can receive. Kubasaki has also maintained its status as a Naval Honor School for five consecutive years.

Beyond the classroom, Cook leads programs that strengthen community ties and support a positive school environment. He founded the Toys from Cadets initiative, which has delivered more than 4,000 toys to children across Okinawa and strengthened relationships between the military and local communities. He also leads the school’s Positive Behavior Intervention and Support program and created the Dragon Fire Awards to honor students and staff who make a meaningful impact.

Cook’s work inspires cadets to lead with character.
