Chaselle Vianette McConnell is a high school Spanish foreign language instructor and department chair at St. Croix Educational Complex High School (SCECHS) in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. With 12 years of teaching experience, she holds Professional Educator Class I and Class II certifications and endorsements in Spanish and English as a second language (ESL).
McConnell earned her Bachelor of Arts in elementary education with a concentration in Spanish from the University of the Virgin Islands and a master’s degree in English as a second language from the University of Ana G. Mendez. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in second language research at the Inter American University of Puerto Rico at Ponce.
She has received numerous accolades throughout her career, including the Teacher of the Year award for the St. Croix District for 2023-2024 and the 2024-2025 United States Virgin Islands State Teacher Award. McConnell engages the local and global community via social media through her platform, “Chaselle McConnell Sharing Smiles and Positive Connections.”
McConnell’s teaching philosophy emphasizes building positive connections and encouraging smiles among her foreign language learners. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she actively contributes to her school community through professional development, committee participation and cultural activities. She serves as the internal coordinator for the Accreditation and School Improvement Team, is an engaged senior class advisor, directs the SCECHS Junior Achievement Program and is a member of the Parent Teacher Organization. Her involvement exemplifies her commitment to fostering a positive school culture and supporting students’ language development.
